Friday Morning

Happy Friday, right?! Between jury duty earlier this week and tending to my ever increasing list of projects and tasks, I'm kind of drowning in work. So off to the weekend where I can enjoy my apartment not being the mess it was for the first three weeks of the year and sleeping in. Besides editing a few podcast episodes and maybe slipping into work for a few hours on Sunday, I'm looking forward to a commitment free weekend. See you Monday :)

Friday Morning

Cheers to the weekend! Even though it was a short work week, it still managed to be a long one. Yesterday I was up at four in the morning for traveling purposes and even though I was planning to go to sleep early that didn't happen. So we'll keep this post short. What are you plans for the weekend? I'm not sure what I'm up too other than getting my place back in order after a pipe leaking incident from earlier this month. See you next week!

Love. Read. Repeat.

Read outside your comfort zone. For the second year in a row, I'm partaking in read harder challenges. I'm reading translated novels, works published in different countries outside my own, more fiction by female authors, sci-fi short stories, essay collections and presidential bios. What have you been reading lately and what are you reading goals this year? And if you are local to the Palm Springs area or just visiting make sure and stop by Whitewater Park and join our Silent Book Club later this month!

Friday Morning...

Cheers to making it to Friday! Did you have smooth and easy week? I hope so, mine wasn't to great! I must have woken up on the wrong side of the bed, I haven't exactly been in the best mood lately. Between not feeling too great combined with ungrateful/annoying library patrons and parents letting their kids damage $150 of newly published books and fighting with me about it, I've had enough of this week. I'm ready to get my apartment back in order (keeping my fingers crossed the dry-wall is back up by the time I get home from work), put away the left over Christmas decorations, binge Mindhunters (I'm really late on this one), work on a few projects podcast and blog related and finish reading a terrible retelling of The Great Gatsby. What are you up too?

Smile Please

Today's challenge is really simple. Make eye contact with five strangers and smile or do something nice for that person. Between politics and the state of our country - everyone is stressed, anxious, fed up and struggling (whatever that might mean). You may be having a tough day and the person next to you maybe having a bad day; but if you look at someone, really look at them and give them a friendly smile or gesture, it might just make their day. Have a good one, if there's one thing our world needs its connection, so please be kind and pay it forward.

Being Alone

Make one of your things this year to spend more time doing things alone. Do things you love doing and not have to worry if it pleases your friends or family members. If you have been wanting to check out that art gallery that nobody else wants to go to, do it alone. Take yourself to lunch, the movies, a museum or getting a coffee, sit down, relax and enjoy yourself. I know so many women (especially women) who don't feel comfortable enough to go out to eat by themselves. I do it all the time and I look forward to it. I'm present, I'm enjoying the meal and sometimes I'll whip out the book I have in my purse and read in public. Do you and go out and enjoy exactly what you want to do today.

Friday Morning

Here I am in sunny, not a cloud in the sky Palm Springs, California wishing I were on the East Coast, you know in the middle of their crazy winter storm. You're probably thinking, this girl is nuts! Call me Lorelai Gilmore but I love the snow. Hats, scarves, wool socks, hot drinks, everything is magical when it snows and I can't tell you how much I miss it! So where are you this weekend? What are you up too?! Wherever you are, have a wonderful and cozy weekend!

Girls Night In

Whether it's during the week or weekend, establish a 'Girls Night In' evening (even if it's only a once a month gathering). Get in your favorite (and cutest) comfy clothes, order in a pizza or make a spread of appetizers, supply the drinks and invite your friends over. It can be a movie night or podcast/article/book discussion kind of night or if you just need to vent about a coworker or the guy in your life, allow yourself to be at ease and in the company of your best friends. As the introverted homebody that I am, when I stumbled across this newsletter, I was so happy that were other women who felt exactly how I felt. Embrace the homebody you are, rest your body/mind and gab with your friends or sisters.

Take Care

Every year for the last four or five years I work on an action plan as opposed to declaring a new year resolution. I no longer create resolutions, not because I can't finish or see something through but I like the more simplistic ideas of Hygge, Lagom, Lykke or Ikigai. Less technology, being outside more, living for each moment and learning to take better care of myself and the world. Which leads me into my first small action of the month. Now that I'm officially in my thirties, I want to make my health a priority. Cancer is my future so as long as I can avoid getting it early, I want to be as healthy as I can and that starts with my diet, my lifestyle and my skin. 2017 seemed to be the year of irritated skin for me! I realized I needed to up my game with skin care products, mostly dermatologist approved or organic brands. If anyone has recommendations for dry and sensitive skin I would love to hear your stories, your input and suggestions when it comes to taking care of your skin. My nightly routine includes a face mask, cleansing my face with a toner, a little mist and moisturizing
