Friday Morning

Good morning readers, how are you?! I'm heading out of town for the weekend to take a break from all work related things and I can't wait. Just nice quiet weekend out and about L.A. enjoying festivals, visiting with friends and enjoying time away from the office. I haven't had a break in a couple months so this mini vaca is long overdue. Have a good one, enjoy your Halloweeny parties, I can't wait to start seeing everyone's costumes! See you next week :)

Life Lately

It's been a crazy hectic month for me, I don't know about you. I'm constantly running around and showing up to work an hour early most days just so I can get through the daily workload. My home life isn't much better. These are just a few things I've been loving and finding. From quick trips on lunch breaks, stumbling upon while working on the blog, the daily internet rabbit holes and material coming through the library. What's up with you?! What have you been finding, watching or doing lately?

1. Growing up I loved Belle from Beauty and the Beast for many reasons. She was independent, she loved books and she befriended a beast and a few other silly/odd characters. When I was younger, I definitely dressed as the Belle in the yellow gown a few times. But now that I'm older, I much prefer Belle in the blue dress!

2. I absolutely love Love, Rosie. It's based off the book, Where Rainbows End by the Irish author, Cecelia Ahern. A lovely British rom-com starring Lily Collins and Sam Claflin, I can't stress enough how sweet this story is. I discovered this movie from another blogger and needless to say it's a top  five romantic comedy for me.

3. I can't remember how I discovered the meditative app, Headspace but it is so worth getting. A service dedicated to providing guided meditations and training yourself to be more mindful, I seriously needed this app like a year ago as I was wrapping up grad school. Making the app user friendly, you can start at five minute meditations to much longer. 10 minutes a day is my goal!

4. When it comes to podcasts, it seems never-ending. But, what I'm listening too right now is so good, I can hardly wait until my lunch break to catch up with Archive 81/The Deep Vault. They are written and produced by the same team and I just love everything about the story lines. you can obviously find them on Itunes or their webpages.

5. Along with being more mindful, eating better and healthier without being on a 'diet,' I'm also trying to exercise more regularly. I found this free yoga class on youtube of all places. I'm starting out with 30 Days of Yoga with Adriene

6. I'm always up for exploring and trying out new restaurants, but My Thai still remains a top five place to go out for dates or catching up with friends. Thai food is hands down my favorite and there is no where in Palm Springs who has better food than My Thai in La Quinta.

7. I'm dying to read Paris for One, a collection of short stories written by JoJo Moyes. Have you read it?!
After reading Me Before You (but not After You), I cannot wait to get this book.

8. These sundried tomato and basil wheat thins are everything. Pair them with the spinach artichoke feta dip by Archer Farms at Target and it's amazing. It's currently my favorite snack. What do you like to nibble on?

9. My sister was the one who found the Bliss Toner Pads at TJMaxx or Marshalls and now has me addicted to them. You can find them for practically nothing at these stores. I usually rotate between three to four toners but these pads are so good, I haven't touched any of my toners in over two months.

Friday Morning

Hiya readers, how have you been? Is it just me or did this month fly by? I can't believe it is nearly the end of October and I don't even have a costume for next weekend!!! At least I've carved a few pumpkins and my house looks moderately festive. I have a few options for a costume but I still need to put it all together so I have something to wear to work on the actual holiday. I'm glad its the weekend for two major reasons, a. Halloween is only a week away and b. the podcast festival is next weekend!!! Also, this bedroom - life goals, right?! Until then I'll wish you a wonderful weekend full of festivities and treats. Oh yea, one of my favorite families came in and baked me a whole batch of pumpkin spice chocolate chip muffins, they are delicious!!!

this week's favorites...

I love scary movies. I might need a buddy to watch them with just to comfort me but I can watch a good psychological thriller or horror movie any day. I'll admit I'm a little desensitized just because I would often sneak watching scaring movies when my brother and dad use to watch when I was really little. However these four classic horror films still give me the heebie-jeebies and The Pact which has come out in the last couple years seriously made me jump even while watching it in broad daylight. What are your favorite horror films? Or are you someone you strays away from scary movie?

5 Traveler Accounts

When it comes to social media, I may have mentioned before I don't really follow friends or celebrities. I mostly follow fellow bloggers, business and retail shops I really like and traveler accounts. In fact most of the people I follow on Instagram and Snapchat are world travelers. These five are my favorite.  Links to their individual accounts are down below and in order of the images above :)

The Daily Escape

Between reading endless articles about the infamous murdering duo Burke and Blake, watching a history special on Scotland and learning about potential travel plans that include working in a bookstore to pay for lodging somewhere in Scotland... I would do it in a heartbeat. Familiarizing myself with Scottish writers and meeting local folk, I would love to tour the countryside and check out the beautiful castle of Edinburgh.  Have you been to Scotland? What are you recommendations and suggestions for traveling there?
Do you know these five facts about Scotland?

1. The official animal of Scotland is the unicorn.

2. Scotland has approximately 790 islands, 130 of which are inhabited.

3.  It is home to the oldest tree in Europe, a twisted yew which has stood in Fortingall for 3,000 years. According to local legend, Pontius Pilate was born in its shade and played there as a child.

4. The raincoat was invented in1824 in Scotland by Charles Macintosh, a chemist born in Glasgow.

5. The very first recorded appearance of the elusive Loch Ness Monster occurred in 565 AD, when a " water beast " attacked one of St. Columba's followers in the loch.

this week's favorites...

So my dream job is being an editor for children's books for this publishing company. Is five years in a library setting and two years as a librarian count for time needed for a position at Flying Eye Books? Five picture books that I am loving and/or waiting to get my hands on.

Friday Morning

It's only a couple weeks until Halloween and I have no idea what I'm going to dress up as for work. Also, I can hardly contain my excitement for the podcast festival my guy is taking me to the weekend before the holiday. If he plans on taking me to one of those notoriously creepy zombie like mazes in L.A., I will kill him. In other news, there are so many podcasts I happened across earlier the week in research for our Stranger than Fiction/Sound and Color podcasts club we have at the library. You should start listening too, Archive 81, The Deep Vault, The Box, The Tunnels, My Favorite Murder, The Box and so many others. Get to listening and tell me what you think in the comments or on twitter. What are your weekend plans?!

Want. Need. Read.

My sister and I have been talking about our ridiculous obsession with blue velvet couches
But I'm actually serious, I want it. The ultimate statement pieces my living room needs.

These Zara shoes were all the rage at New York Fashion Week. So classic, comfy and manageable with a short chunky heel. Can you say the 90's are back?!

The never ending list of books. The Domino book isn't coming out until November but I have already pre-ordered it. I've heard so many things about Texts from Jane Eyre, as soon as my coworker is done reading it, I'm checking it out!

What's on your fall list?!

Friday Morning

Between the JonBenet Ramsey and Amanda Knox documentaries which has been both exhilarating and emotional (I've also been fearing for the next big one) and the longest week ever, I am looking forward to a weekend of going to the movies and finishing the five books I've been reading all at once. I plan on making some fall crafts and enjoying a few seasonal projects. The best part of my week its been in the high 50's at night which means long pajamas. With a coworker and friend leaving the library earlier this week and the insane amount of programs and meetings I've been taking on, I am so looking forward to just not talking to anyone. It may sound odd but when you're introverted and all you do is talk all day, it is completely draining! I'll see you in a couple days, hope you have a good one.

The Rules of Fall (Part IV)

1. I'm always up for a movie marathon this time year, whether it's hunkering down for a Halloween movie fest or another themed marathon, I'll be watching Gone With the Wind because...I've never seen it. There's something autumnal about it. Maybe because it's usually on around the holidays.

2. Seven years ago friends and I drove to Fort Wayne, Indiana to catch the Johnny Appleseed Festival. And I loved it, everything was apple flavored and the reenactments were both exciting and comical. Although Kirk (from Gilmore Girls) wasn't there to dress in an 18th century woman's gown to tell the story of the founding of Stars Hallow, I still enjoyed it. I recently went to a pumpkin patch and fall festival this past weekend with my family. I'm 28 years old and it's the first time I've ever been to a pumpkin patch. Hit up the pumpkin patch and go through the corn maze.

3. Get creative and make your own wreath. Last year I made one with the help of A Cozy Kitchen

4. Instead of reading your favorite psychological thriller every October, reread classic scary stories from when you were a kid. Share your favorite spooky stories from when you were little to your kids or your nieces and nephews. I've been reading Halloween books I grew up in story times and the kids are loving them.

5. I am not a big Starbucks person. But this time of year, I cannot live without their Hot Carmel Apple Cider. I plan on finding a recipe myself and making it at home.
